Nora Winn, NJWCS, NEWS, CLWAC, earned a B.A. degree from Hofstra University, with a dual major in English and Education and a minor in Fine Arts. She subsequently received her M.A. degree in Humanities with a concentration in literature and studio fine arts in 1974.
An elected member since 2006 of the Art Center Watercolor Affiliates (ACWA), a group of watercolor artists associated with the Art Center of Northern New Jersey, Nora, along with fellow members of ACWA, has been displaying her watercolors several times a year at various venues as the Children’s Specialized Hospital in Mountainside, the Girl Scout Council of Bergen County’s “Women in the Arts” show in 2006, the Gallery at the Louis Bay Library in Hawthorne, and the Unitarian Society of Ridgewood in 2014. Also a member of CAA, Community Art Association, a local Northern NEW JERSEY group of artists working in various mediums, Nora has displayed her watercolors at their annual shows for many years and garnered several awards.
Since her acceptance as a member in 2010, Nora has exhibited with the Blackwell Street Artists, a smaller select group of professional artists working in various mediums, showing watercolors annually at the The Atrium at the Morris County Courthouse in Morristown and periodically at locations throughout Bergen, Morris and Essex Counties in NEW JERSEY.
Nora has exhibited her watercolors each year to date, beginning in 2005 at the “Focus New Jersey” and the “Celebrating Bergen County’s Diversity” juried art exhibits held annually at the Marcella Geltman Gallery at the Art Center of Northern New Jersey in New Milford, receiving several “First” and “Second Place for Watercolor” awards for her compositions, including first place for “Alexa,” “Little Miss Pin-Up,” and “Togar” at the Focus shows in 2009, and 2010, and 2014 respectively, and second place for “Missy Had a Little Lamb,” at the Diversity show also in 2010. In spring 2007 her watercolor, “The Guardsmen,” was accepted into the Art Center of Northern New Jersey’s 16th National Juried Show, judged by the Assistant Curator of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. At the “2013 Focus New Jersey” show where both of her submitted works were accepted for exhibition, her painting, “At Seaside After Sandy” won the “Second Place in Watercolor” award at the artists’ reception on November 10, 2013. She has also received several “Honorable Mention” awards at both shows over the years, including 2015.
In October 2008, Nora received the Drake-Kinzer Wealth Services Award at the New Jersey Watercolor Society’s 66th Annual Exhibit for her watercolor, “Bubble Trouble.” Her paintings were also accepted into the 69th, 70th, 71st, and 72nd Open Juried Exhibitions of the New Jersey Watercolor Society Shows in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 respectively, garnering an award for “Togar” in the 2014 Annual Juried show and an award of merit for “the Guardsmen” at the 2015 Annual Members’ Show. She was voted in as an elected member of the NJWCS in 2012. Since then, Nora has also exhibited paintings annually at the New Jersey Water Color Society Elected Members’ shows. Currently, during the 2014-7 calendar year, she serves on NJWCS’ board as Nominating Chair.
A frequent exhibitor at the Ridgewood, NEW JERSEY juried art shows, in January 2010 at the 30th Annual Regional Open Juried Show at the Ridgewood Art Institute, Nora was awarded the American Artists Professional League Award for her portrait, “Alexa.”
An elected signature member of NEWS since November, 2013, Nora’s paintings have been accepted into the Northeast Watercolor Society’s 35th, 36th, 37th, 38th and 39th International Open Juried Exhibitions overthe last five years. Her entry, “ Benjamin,” won the American Frame monetary award in November 2013, and ‘Togar’ received the M. Graham & Co. Award for 2015.
Her watercolor entries were also accepted and exhibited at the Salmagundi Club’s 31st, 34th, 36th Annual Open Non-Member Exhibitions held at 47 Fifth Avenue in NYC.
Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club’s 117th Annual Open Juried Exhibition in 2013 marked the third time Nora’s work was accepted into and awarded at this prestigious New York City women’s art show. Nora was unanimously voted in as a signature member of the Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club as of December 2013. Just as “And the Tree was Happy” was accepted into CLWAC’s December 2014 118th Annual Open Juried Exhibition, “Somchai’s Python” was accepted into the 2015 119th Annual Open Juried Exhibition.
